Last week, I shared my reviews of new Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt. My friend L, a registered dietitian, is joining me again to taste test Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers. Several of the frozen entrees were recently improved based on consumer feedback.

I taste tested two Healthy Choice Top Chef Inspired Cafe Steamer meals.

There are 24 varieties so it was tough to decide which ones to pick. Hmm, hmm, hmm. Okay, I decided on two of the New! Top Chef Inspired varieties – Crustless Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo. I thought it was interesting that Bravo’s Top Chef and Healthy Choice partnered to introduce an exclusive line of dishes with “bold, innovative and exciting flavors.” I’m definitely up for some excitement on my menu during my life after 50.

We tasted. We tested. We read the packaging. What did we think?

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Crustless Chicken Pot Pie receives a thumbs up.


Crustless Chicken Pot Pie: Overall, L and I had positive things to say about the product. “While it’s not a lot of calories for dinner, the profile is a nutritionist’s dream,” said L. “One meal is 300 calories with 20 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, plus it is low in cholesterol.” We both thought the chicken was very tender, the vegetables al dente, and dumplings a good texture. “While it is not as saucy or rich as a regular pot pie, I’ll give a thumbs up to this entree,” I said.

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo was a winner.

Chicken Linguini with Red Pepper Alfredo: “This entree is more flavorful, I like the cheesy sauce,” said L. “It also has a good nutrition profile.” “Yes, there is plenty of sauce to cover the pasta and I like the broccoli florets,” I said. “This is my favorite since I am a pasta-lover.”

Both Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers have adequate amounts of protein for a meal however they are rather low in calories. L suggested other healthy eating combinations to round out the entrees for a more satiating dinner. Her tips included:

– “Start with a few unsalted nuts as an appetizer and have fresh fruit for dessert.”

– “Serve with a salad with feta cheese, like I did, and have a cup of Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt for dessert.”

There are many more varieties to try, including options for those who prefer vegetarian meals. My boyfriend L is a fan of Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers for lunchtime. His favorites: Grilled Chicken Pesto with Vegetables and Chicken Margherita with Balsamic – both are from the Top Chef Inspired line. Yes, yes, yes, my boyfriend L has good taste in food and good taste in women!
