Warning: This blog post may make you hungry!

In my last post, I recapped my 2024 snowbird stay in Southwest Florida. Today I’m going to share my foodie adventures exploring Naples culinary scene.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, I did a lot of eating at restaurants and cafes in Naples and Bonita Springs this winter. Both neighboring towns have vibrant and constantly expanding dining options. I’ve picked eight to tell you about. Let’s dig in!

Starting with breakfast in Bonita Springs

Breakfast is my fav eat of the day. A good decaf latte or cold brew made with oat or almond milk can make for a positive path forward. Couple with a buttery pastry or fluffy pancake and I’m in la la land.

That’s exactly what won me over at Wolfmoon on Old 41 Road in Bonita Springs.

As its website says: “Wolfmoon specializes in fresh croissants and specialty coffee. It is a labor of love that one can experience with each bite. It is designed for people like you, who appreciate the beauty of real food.”

OMG a Wolfmoon croissant is SO WORTH THE CALORIES. While one croissant is large enough for two, my BF E and I ordered a plain and chocolate. We both preferred the plain and wished the second had more chocolate filling. My iced decaf latte was well proportioned with coffee to oat milk. Everything was so good, so good, so good.

Some other popular spots for breakfast in Bonita are:

Waffle Monkey — next door to Wolfmoon. This waffle chain, not to be confused with Waffle House, has freshly-made Belgian waffles. E and I agreed that Monkey waffles were light and crispy and gave a thumbs-up for its friendly staff and quick service. However, since we went there right after eating Wolfmoon croissants (yes we did a crazy carbo-load), next time we’ll try Monkey waffles when our tummies are less full.

(Sidebar: Speaking of waffles, E took me to my first-ever Waffle House breakfast in Sarasota last December. I have to admit the waffles there are the opposite of fluffy and the coffee is equally tasteless — but it is an iconic American road stop and I am glad to have finally experienced the Waffle House experience.)

Downtown Coffee and Wine Company is a coffee bar in the morning and a wine bar at night. Outdoor seating draws a crowd in the a.m. and midday. I like DCWC lattes and open-faced avocado toast on wholegrain bread which has tasty veggie toppings.

Survey Cafe in downtown Bonita is a small cafe converted from an old Florida cottage with a wrap around deck. The outdoor patio has a homey atmosphere. It’s a pretty place to sit and sample a sweet or savory breakfast, brunch or lunch. Survey also has some scrumptious homemade pastries and desserts for takeaway.

Skip lunch and let’s go straight to dinner

Let’s skip midday and go directly to dinner.  Choosing a restaurant in Naples or Bonita Springs for dinner is challenging because there are so many excellent eating establishments serving every kind of ethnic food desired plus amazing seafood — and more restaurants are opening every season — that are so good, so good, so good.

BTW if you’re looking for superb seafood read my Best Seafood Restaurants in Naples blog post from 2023.

Tiramisu from Campiello in Naples Florida

Tiramisu from Campiello

When it comes to dinnertime, I was extra excited for my supper, especially at these four great restaurants:

Choose Campiello for Italian food

I’ll begin with my fav restaurant Campiello in Old Town Naples. If you’re planning a visit here go right now and make a resy as this best Italian ristorante as it’s usually fully booked. I promise you’ll eat well. I’ve been two years in a row and it is pasta perfection. The ambiance is nice wherever you sit — indoors or outside on the bustling patio near the outdoor bar. The food — divine from start to finish.

All the pastas are homemade at Campiello

My sister N dined with me at Campiello in February. We shared Bread with Garlic Confit, Mascarpone, Butter, Herbs and an Arancini appetizer; followed by Pappardelle Braised Veal, Tomato, Oregano for my main and Bucantini Rigati Frutti di Mare for N; and finished off the evening with a dessert of Tiramisu. It was all so good, so good, so good.

Check out O’Mei for traditional Chinese cuisines

My friend B recommended O’Mei when we were chatting about restaurants. “I heard they have good Chinese food,” said B. So when E and I had the urge for Asian fare we decided to check out the menu. We went on a Saturday night without reservations — not the best idea. Luckily they were able to sit us at an outdoor table as the dining room was packed by 6:00 p.m.

We were happy with our authentic Chinese dishes with an O’mei twist. We had Spicy Steamed Wontons with chopped peanuts and chili sauce as our appetizer, followed by O’Mei Pan Fried Noodles with chicken in light sauce and Mixed Vegetables in a brown sauce. It was so good, so good, so good.

I can see why “O’mei has won numerous fine dining awards from Naples Daily News to Best of Gulfshore Life three years in a row.”

Try Lake Park Diner for a casual meal

“Let’s grab a quick bite after pickleball,” said my friends B and K. They suggested Lake Park Diner. I had heard about this casual upscale eatery but never been. Located a short distance from downtown Naples, it has outdoor and indoor tables. Guests order from a window, then grab a seat and your meal is brought to you.

The American menu features salads and bowls, sandwiches and burgers, and a few larger mains they call favorites. Lake Park offers wines and interesting cocktails and mocktails and also serves weekend brunch.

It’s “The Diner with a Conscience,” that focuses on quality and sustainable products, putting both your health and our environment first. They say: “We don’t believe in the use of steroids, antibiotics, hormones, or GMOs in any of our food.”  These qualities were evident in my Avocado Caesar Salad with shrimp. It was so good, so good, so good.

BTW the concept is so successful that soon there will be two more Lake Park Diners in the area, including one in Bonita Springs.

Share small plates at The Bohemian

One of the newest restaurants to hit the culinary scene in Bonita Springs is The Bohemian. Its eclectic menu showcases “a chef driven kitchen approach with global influences and a focus on technique and quality.”

You can expect the unconventional at The Bohemian. Shareable selections are made fresh to order and come to the table as ready with locally-sourced ingredients from farms & fishermen and herbs from their rooftop organic garden. Menus are seasonal and can change even daily.

We were four and chose to share several small plates. Each one had a sensory wow factor when it appeared – from the geometrically-spaced Yellowfin Tuna Crispy Rice with Chipotle Aioli + Sexy Scallions + Yakiniku Sauce + Noosh; to the buttery Crab & Lobster Jar filled with bites of fresh seafood that melted in your mouth; and the St. Louis Style Ribs complete with Korean BBQ + House Pickles + Cashew Furikake + Sesame.

Did we leave room for dessert? Absolutely! We shared Smore’s Cake with a Graham Crust + Browned Butter Chocolate + Torched Mallow + Gelato and Dark Chocolate Oatmilk Vegan Gelato with Coconut Flour Vegan Mexican Wedding Cookies. E liked the Dark Chocolate Gelato so much he barely shared it.

We all agreed that The Bohemian is worth many more dining visits. It was wow-o-wow excellent.

That’s a wrap on my endless eating during my 2024 snowbird stay. Are you hungry yet?
