I’ve noticed lately that writers I follow on Substack and other blogs are sharing posts about things they like. I enjoy these type of posts and pick up nuggets of information that are valuable or new products or services I end up using. It’s like when friends share tips.

So I thought I’d start my own feature called “Things Worth Sharing” including a roundup of things I’m enjoying, reading, watching and discovering. I’m not sure whether this feature will be weekly, monthly or even quarterly. At this point, I don’t want to overcommit, so we’ll see how things go. Know that whatever I write about or recommend are things I believe in, have used, or I feel are worthwhile. BTW I am not an affiliate (as of now), so if I link to a product or service I don’t make any $$.

Most of all, I want to know what you think of this initial post and get your feedback. If you feel like leaving a comment on your thoughts on this new feature, I’d greatly appreciate your suggestions.

Okay, here’s my first share..

What I’m Watching

I just finished watching the documentary series on CNN called “Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever.” I’m a KS fan and think she is a great journalist and podcaster. Being an aging boomer I found Kara’s interviews with scientists and research about new ventures on longevity to be fascinating

Some of the things the wealthy tech bros are doing to their bodies is intense and the beauty and skin treatments that may be available in the future are intriguing. (Note: If you have cable or a streaming service that provides CNN you can watch these episodes even though they have already aired.)

Listening Lately

My Apple podcast list gets longer every day. I listen to podcasts in the car, on my walks, and when I’m on the elliptical and exercising. One of the weekly podcasts I like is “Age Better” with Barbara Hannah Grufferman. I know Barbara from the blogosphere.

As a fellow boomer girl, she has written extensively about how to age better, especially post 50. Like me, Barbara is approaching 70 and has been hosting a series on her podcast called The Road to 70 where she interviews experts about health and wellness for women getting older — whether they’re approaching 70 or already there.

You can find “Age Better” wherever you listen to your podcasts, including YouTube.

Book Corner

One of my intentions for 2026 is to read more books. After signing up for Libby through my library I am totally on board. Libby makes it easy to read on my Kindle without paying for new books. The only issue is that you get about two weeks per download and when you’re a slow reader like me it can be challenging. Usually I’ve been able to renew my books for an extra week. Plus I am constantly putting books on hold that I learn about from all the Substack newsletters I read — see how shares work?

The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett

“The Calamity Club “is a new novel from Kathryn Stockett who wrote “The Help”

The book I’m reading now is “The Calamity Club” by Kathryn Stockett. I LOVE IT! If you loved Kathryn’s “The Help,” you’ll love this book too. It is long – 600 pages. The historical fiction is set in Mississippi during 1933 and tells the journey of a group of women and how they manage through the Great Depression. Kathryn is an amazing writer and develops her characters so you feel you get to really know them well. Hopefully I’ll finish the book before I have to return it. OMG I was just able to renew it for another two weeks!

Wellness Notes

I don’t know about you but I’ve been inundated with news about how important strength training is for post-menopausal women. And yes, I’ve started to lift weights per my physical therapist’s guidance and a personal trainer. I hope it helps with my bone density when I get my next scan in a few weeks.

Since strength training is always on my mind lately, I thought I’d share this new program that the team at Penn State Extension sent to me. They are offering a virtual live group-based strength training program for adults ages 40 and above. LIFTed is aimed at improving functional fitness, or the ability to perform daily activities with ease.

I’ve been learning to lift weights  as part of strength training during my life after 60

The eight-week course will occur from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 9 – July 30, 2026. The program is designed to improve strength, posture and flexibility, as well as emphasize the benefits of a healthy diet.

Participants can register through June 5, 2026. The registration fee of $60 covers the cost of the full eight-week program. Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinars. I like the fact that registrants will also receive access to the webinar recordings, especially if you can’t participate live.

More information is available on the Penn State Extension website at https://extension.psu.edu/lifted-8-week.

Travel Finds

My friends at Road Scholar, the not-for-profit world leader in educational travel for older adults, are hosting Age Adventurously Day on June 8th. The program invites adults to celebrate the spirit of lifelong learning by trying something new, whether close to home or across the globe.

Road Scholar is hosting “Age Adventurously Day” on June 8th

On June 8th, adults across the country are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone. Adventures can be as bold or as simple as desired — from traveling to a new destination to trying a dance class, hiking a new trail or joining a book club. The goal: to inspire a mindset of exploration that extends far beyond a single day.

Share Your Story & Win: As part of the celebration, Road Scholar is hosting the Age Adventurously Giveaway, inviting participants to share how theyre embracing adventure. Submissions will be accepted through June 15, 2026. Five winners will receive a $500 Road Scholar travel voucher to support future adventures.

These are my initial “Things Worth Sharing.” Hope you find the information helpful or useful. Leave a comment and LMK what you think of this new roundup.
