Last month, I had the opportunity to visit the NY NOW Show – The Market for Lifestyle, Home + Gift – at the Javits Center in New York City. This group hosts a winter and summer show each year. It’s geared to retailers, but they let the media attend too.
After a positive response to my holiday gift-giving guide, I thought I would walk the February NY NOW Show and bring back ideas for perfect spring and Mother’s Day gifts for boomer women. I hope you’ll like my offerings. Maybe JudiBoomergirl’s gift guides will become as popular as Oprah’s monthly “O List” – you think?
For those who love handcrafted jewelry
♥ “Handmade with love and sandy hands” as their tagline says, Dune Jewelry, the Original Beach Sand Jewelry Company®, captures sand from different beaches in their jewels. You can even customize a piece with your own sand.
♥ Tara and Laurie from Hazel + Harmony make stackable bracelets inspired by the energy of semiprecious stones and minerals.
♥ You’ll be motivated by the words on the bracelets, earrings and necklaces from Becoming, a line of jewelry from Maine entrepreneur Tracey Graves.
♥ Whitney Howard Designs makes all types of jewelry. I was attracted to their Acai Seeds of Life Bracelets in multiple colors.
♥ Bella Vita Jewelry from Arkansas creator Brandy Thomason McNair features “artisan jewelry with an eye for design and a love of all things vintage.”
For storing your jewelry and accessories
Umbra makes modern and functional solutions for your closet, bath, walls, and more. Isn’t this Audrey Freestanding Metal Wire Frame Scarf and Jewelry Organizer a “must have” for your closet or to keep out in the open in your bedroom? I’m definitely adding it to my “to buy” list. Or if you just want a cool scarf hanger, check out the Pendant Square.
For those who desire luxurious slippers to cover your feet
From Goody Goody, these adorable slippers come in women’s, girl’s, and infant’s sizes. Each item is handcrafted with beautiful silks and exquisite embellishments.
For those who want (not need) an extra handbag or wallet
♥ The Healthy Back Bag is great for your life after 50. It’s designed to mold to the shape of your back, minimizing the strain on your spine, neck and shoulders.
♥ The Copacabana collection of Italian leather handbags and accessories from mywalit will brighten up your style for spring and summer.
♥ Stainless Steel Wallets and cardholders from STEWART/STAND have RFID blocking protection from credit card and ID theft.
♥ Mini essentials kits with everything from dental floss, to emery boards, to earring backs, and more were on display from Pinch Provisions. These small gifts may prove to be a lifesaver for emergencies on-the-go. You’ll want to keep one in your handbag at all times.
For yoga, zen, and spa time
♥ Sonoma Lavender offers a variety of hot/cold therapy wraps, diffusers, sachets, candles and body elixers in scents of lavender, eucalyptus, and ocean aire.
♥ Spa Sister sells cute hair covers for the bath or shower.
♥ You’ll “zen out” when you shake these Cool Snow Globes. Soon they will be available in smaller sizes. I just love, love, love snow globes.
♥ These ombre tees from Rock Cotton are so comfortable for yoga or just lounging around. Made of 100% cotton, they are available in new spring pastels.
For the beach and pool
♥ Being a beach person, I gravitated to these aztec and seashell roundie beach towels from the beach people. I thought their circular shape was unique and would be easy to spot in a crowd. Jute bags, leather towel holders, and beach carts are also available.
♥ For those who like a tie-dyed look, check out Baja Zen. The towels are made of soft and comfy cotton. Baja Zen also makes tie-dyed totes, eye soothers, and candles. I stopped by Turkish T too, which makes high-quality beach candy and attire in soft Turkish terry.
♥ During the summer, I’m constantly tripping over everyone’s flip-flops at my condo-on-the-corner at the shore. When I saw these cute flip flop and sunscreen pails from Jayes Studio, I immediately thought of the perfect spot on my indoor patio. Jayes has other nice home decor for housewarming gifts.
For your bohemian attire
When you shop Rising Tide, you help a community thrive. The company’s mission is to assist in creating products from the developing world that can be marketed in the USA while at the same time, improving the living standards of the low income artisans that make these items. Their team works with the artisans to meld traditional textiles and techniques (such as weaving, knitting, and felting) to create beautiful scarves, bags and tops.
Happy shopping! ♥

Such a stunning collection of items! That must have been a really fun day. Thank you so much for sharing these pictures and links. While I do like to give gifts that people need, my favorite gifts to give are those that people might not treat themselves to. My favorite gift I gave recently was a gift basket for a friend that I filled with items for her to pamper herself (lotions, bath products, fluffy socks).
Heather, what a thoughtful gift for a friend.
I was recently given a great scarf from a friend, I have been wearing this daily!
Susan, how nice. I love scarves.
I was thinking about going to that show, and now I am definitely disappointed that I couldn’t make it! These are fantastic items!!
Jessica, definitely check out NY NOW for August, that is when the summer show.
I would go crazy at that Gift Show. What fabulous items! I own 2 pairs of the Goody Goody slippers, and they are so cute. I like to give gifts from museum gift shops because the gifts are usually unique, in fact I’m sure some of the vendors at the show sell through museum gift shops. And my other favorite gifts to give are DIY items – beauty items that I make like scrubs or heart-shaped moisturizing bars. I’m a collector of all things heart-shaped so I just had to enter your wonderful giveaway!
Allison, so glad you like the gifts. You are lucky to have Goody Goody slippers.
I recently adopted a shelter puppy and have realized how much my dog lover friends love to give dog gifts and I love them and so does the puppy!
Lee, while I don’t have a dog, I’m sure if I did I would buy gifts for my puppy.
Ooh, love all of these things – I’ll have to go to the show next year (but it would be hard to keep my hands off everything!). The slippers are especially adorable.
Yes, so many fun things. It’s so difficult to pick and choose.
