Loving Linen: Stylish Pieces That Work for My Mature Figure

I love linen, so when the LINTICO brand* invited me to try some pieces and review them on my blog, I was intrigued. I have quite a few Italian linen pants in my wardrobe that are summer staples, and winter ones too now that I’m a Florida snowbird.

Finding any kind of clothing, even linen, is challenging lately with my mature figure. Most of the time it comes down to not only how will the clothing fit but more so — will it work with my middle-age-middle. Even though I have a small frame, my sixtysometing body is definitely different than my fiftysomething body and seems to be changing each year no matter how much I exercise.

I have to admit I’m not good at purchasing clothing online unless I’ve worn the brand before. Plus when it comes to linen I want to make sure it is a quality fabric. I was hesitant that LINTICO linens would fit my 5’2″ frame. The clothing looked more appropriate for taller, larger women.

Hmm, now that I was sold on the collaboration, next was selecting the three to four pieces for my Try-On. I liked several in the fall line-up, making it difficult to choose. My first inclination was to go with styles I thought would work for my petite body — I selected a pair of ankle pants and button down shirt.

The LINTICO Marketing Team members were super helpful especially when I gave them my measurements. They recommended a stand-up collar jacket. They also encouraged me to try a wrap dress.

Everything arrived nicely packaged in individual brown envelopes. I unfolded each piece and hung them up. Then out came the hand-held steamer, heated and ready to go. Swish, swish, swish, I watched as the warm steam quickly dismantled the wrinkles.

A wrap dress that knows how to flatter

First up is the Linen Crossover V-Neck Wrap Stretch Midi Dress – MARNIE in Navy. I put on my Spanx and then popped on the dress. The size S was tailor-fit for me. I like the way it hugged my figure yet hung nicely below the knee and the crossover V-Neck landed in a perfect spot for my necklace. With my beige patent leather wedges I was ready to go to a holiday dinner. Here’s a pic. What do you think? Kudos to the LINTICO team for encouraging me to sample a dress. Giving the barrel-leg trend a try

Next up – 100% Linen Classic Ankle Pants ZOE in Navy in a Size S. Another bullseye fit. The waist has a nice thick band of elastic so it doesn’t buckle inside the fold. There are two pockets and the oh-current barrel-leg silhouette works well since the hem narrows at my  ankle. These pants can be dressed up with heels or dressed down with sneakers. They go great with tees or button downs. ZOE is available in a rich grey color too.

The 100% Linen Classic Shirt Top SAVANNAH in Optic White is another winner. The Size S fit well. I like that I can wear it like a jacket with a tank or as a button-down. LINTICO linen is pre-shrunk to minimize shrinkage and machine washable in cold water.

Finally, there is the 100% Linen Stand Collar Princess Seam Jacket ALIDA in Natural Melange. The beige button-down jacket went wonderfully with the barrel pants. I like the neutral color and rolled the sleeves up to give it a more casual look. The neckline is comfortable and also works well with the linen button down shirt.

Embracing linen, embracing my age

As I settle into my aging body, I’m learning to accept the wrinkles and be glad for all I can do at this point in my life. While I do botox away the wrinkles on my face every few months, with time they reappear. And that’s okay.

Just like the lines and wrinkles that come with being sixty-something are part of my being, the wrinkles in linen are equally part of its personality. Whether it’s my own wrinkles or those on the clothing I’m wearing, I’ve realized at this age neither really needs to be perfectly pressed to look good.
