With autumn in full swing I thought it was time to face the facts about my aging skin and change up my fall beauty routine. I needed a perk after looking at myself in the mirror a few weeks ago.
OMG my soon to be 65 year-old face was indeed looking dull and wrinkly. I realized it had been almost 10 years since I bought any makeup or changed any colors. Not that I wear much makeup these days since the pandemic — moisturizers and tinted sunscreen are my standard while expensive foundations collect dust. I consider myself to be an au natural gal on most days since retiring.
Is Jones Road Miracle Balm a miracle for my aging face?
There it was — a miracle waiting for me. It was as if someone was reading my mind. An article about Miracle Balm from Bobbi Brown’s new skincare meets makeup line called Jones Road appeared in Katie Couric’s Wake Up Call. Katie is a fan of Bobbi and so am I. Katie and Bobbi are almost the same age as me — both turned 65 in 2022. I’ve used Bobbi Brown cosmetics since I was in my 40s.
Katie wrote, “I use Jones Road Face Pencil as an under-eye concealer and the Miracle Balm as bronzer. Just rub the products in with your fingers and you’re ready to rock!” Then Bobbi Brown blasted me with an Instagram reel about how great Miracle Balm is for aging women. “It’s a game changer,” said Bobbi. And Allure recognized Miracle Balm with a “Best of Beauty Award” for 2022.
According to Bobbi, Miracle Balm is a hybrid product. It’s a tint, it’s a highlighter, it’s an infused moisturizer. “It’s why I love it so much,” she said about her cool, clean makeup. “And days when I don’t feel I’m my most vibrant self, I can literally take a tin and wake my skin up. I can add a little bit of color in a sheer way.”
Now approaching my milestone sixty-something b-day, I need a miracle. I do! I do! Ooh, ooh, ooh perhaps Miracle Balm could be my miracle too.
Finding my miracle at Jones Road flagship store
I quickly hit google and found the Jones Road website. Not being good at color picking, I knew I wouldn’t be able to select my Miracle Balm color on my own simply by filling out a survey. Ooh,ooh, ooh, there is a flagship store in Montclair, New Jersey. Ooh, ooh, ooh, my daughter A lives close by.
“I want to go to the Jones Road store in Montclair,” I said to A last weekend while visiting. “There may be a miracle waiting for me there.” She obliged and on Saturday afternoon we hit the road.
“How can I help you?” asked the nice cosmetic specialist M. M appeared to be close to my age with gorgeous long gray hair. “I want to try Miracle Balm,” I told her. “Of course, let’s see what color will work with your skin tone.
Selecting my colors
M had me stand in the natural light to observe my face. Of the eight shades available, she selected two possibilities – Tawny and Dusty Rose. She rubbed a dab of color on the back of her hand to warm it up. “Smile” said M as she applied Tawny to one cheek and Dusty Rose to the other. We all agreed Dusty Rose was the winner. “Let’s also touch up your forehead and chin a little,” said M applying more Dusty Rose. My face instantly seemed brighter. My mood cheery.
“Maybe I should get the 101 set,” I said. “Sure,” said M. “It comes with Miracle Balm, two face pencils and mascara. The mascara is fabulous,” said M.
To test out the shade of pencils, M applied #10 under my eyes and #8 in the corner of my eyes to cover dark shadows. I loved it. My eyes looked brighter. At home I applied the mascara. It made my lashes super long and I really liked its curved brush.
For $98, which included four products, I felt I had found a few tiny miracles. (Note: Miracle Balm alone costs $38.) BTW Bobbi admits that Miracle Balm is not for everyone. “Who would love this product is someone that has normal skin, someone who has dry skin, that really likes to have a little bit of a lift to their skin. If you have very oily skin or an emolient makes your skin feel tacky, you may not like it,” said Bobbi. (Note: If you are interested in finding your shade and are good with surveys click here.)
Embracing your age with comfort
“As women, we can manage and control a lot of things but let’s face it, we can’t stop time,” said Bobbi. “Instead, we need to embrace it. Aging is a natural process. We have character lines on our faces and that’s OK. In fact, beauty is feeling comfortable in your own skin at any age.”
There’s that word “embrace.” “Embrace” is my inspirational word for 2022. Amazing! How are you embracing your age with comfort? LMK
OMG, I know what else Bobbi and I have in common, she loves Audrey Hepburn as much as I do. I immediately “embraced” the Audrey Hepburn quote that was hanging on the wall of Jones Road’s flagship store. Audrey knew how to “embrace” life to the fullest. Read below:
Don’t you love Audrey Hepburn? Do you believe in miracles? Do tell.

My blogging partner sent me a tub of Miracle Balm. I hated it. I found it to be stiff in the tub, sticky and greasy, and it did nothing really for my dry skin. But everyone is different, so I’m glad you like it. I like the metallic powder eyeshadow, however
Allison, I know you are a beauty blogger so you try lots of products. I think some people either love Miracle Balm or really don’t. Guess you’re in the second camp.
Readers had comments:
Reader M said: “I have several Jones Road products! I have Miracle Balm in Dusty Rose and Bronze. I like them a lot. I like the eyeliner pencil and eyeshadow I got. I also liked the mascara but haven’t reordered it because there are plenty of mascaras that are just as good for less money. But I’ve tried using the face pencils and to me they tug a little and don’t provide coverage. I like Bobbi and what she stands for. She’s low key and natural.”
Reader J said: “My BFF has been using Miracle Balm for several months. She loves it but it does NOT have any SPF so need to use sunscreen over it if you go outside.”
Note other followers on my Facebook page have had positive and negative comments about Miracle Balm. I believe you have to try different products and use what is right for you. Everyone has a different skin type. The good thing is there are many makeup and skin care lines to choose from.
